March whizzed by with rain, blustery wind, and ending with spring flowers, just as it should. I had local excursions and time in my yard. I particularly enjoyed watching the plants in my yard started to leaf-out, and buds turned to blooms. Blue-eyed grass was the first to bloom, but the Ceonothus, and Coral Bells filled in quickly. Finally, by the end of the month, the grape leaves on my arbor popped open and the garden is looking lush. Birds visit my fountain and look 'cute' as little wet twitter balls of fluff and feathers.
I did some minor chasing of the special birds. A returning Cape May Warbler was easy to find. A Pine Warbler was a lifer for me and was in the park just where it had been reported by others all week.
Mammals show up strongly in my collection. Someone feeds the feral cats at Cabrillo Beach. The cats may be wild, but the raccoons are relatively comfortable with people. The cat did not like sharing with the raccoon, but the racoon kept reaching into the dish anyway and washed the food in the water bowl. My night cameras caught cats, raccoons, skunks, and opossum. One of the opossums a rather extended belly, which I assume are babies in the pouch. I hope I get to see them.
That's it for now.
Happy nature watching. I hope you find moments of happiness!
