As our calendar year comes to a close, it is always a time to look back and reflect upon the year. Sometimes it is hard to remember all that happened. This was the first year of my mother living with me, and three months of foot recovery. It is easy to think of these events that have taken a large part of my year on a different trajectory. However, when I look back at all my photos for the year I also am reminded of the beautiful moments in nature that have been a consistent part of joy in my life. I show some of my highlights of the year below.
This month, I had some nice birds visit my yard, including a Plumbeous Vireo. This is a cool time of year and, as expected, there are fewer insects. I made a few short birding adventures outside my yard. I helped on two CBC's (Christmas Bird Counts for Audubon chapters), and I chased a lifer, the King Eider duck in Huntington Beach.
I went on a mini-art retreat with a friend. We went to Catalina and it was fabulous. The trip required a blog of all its own. I am great at making my own projects which has resulted in two more blog posts about seasonal timing of nature and bird migration. Go to my list of blogs to see them.
Happy nature watching. I hope your year ahead is joyful!
