Little Petroglyph Canyon, China Lake. The basalt walls of this canyon are covered in thousands ancient Indian petroplyphs. The canyon is in a highly restricted Naval Weapons base in the Mojave Desert. We had to go as a group with guides and be prescreened. We had to stay in sight of the guides at all times and were not allowed to take any photos until we got to the canyon (cameras and cell phones had to be locked in the trunk.) While trying to protect our military secrets it also protects the petroglyphs themselves. There were literally thousands. Here is an article.
