Los Angeles Coastal California Naturalist Training Field Trip to three areas of the Los Angeles River. It was a very hot day well above 80 with < 2 kts of wind

9:00 AM North Atwater Park: This part of the river is in an area called the Glendale Narrows. It sit across the 5 Freeway from Griffith Park.It one of a few areas of the river that has a natural bottom and is home to many birds. I recorded 15 species of birds.

10:30 Marsh Street Park: Just South in an area called Frogtown (officially Elysian Valley). This is an area recently opened to kayaking tours. Not as much wildlife was seen in this area. I recorded only 6 species of birds.

12:30 Willow Street Estuary in Long Beach also a natural-bottom section on the River. Just two miles to the ocean, fresh water mixes with salt water. This was the most abundant area for wildlife. I recorded 21 species of birds
