Ocelli - simple eyes: most adults have 3. They do not form images but mayidentify timing of length of day. sometimes see polarized light optical compass (in migratory insects)

Compound eyes: give mosaic of images and are adapted to pick up motion and distance. Visual spectrum includes ultraviolet, violet, blue, blue-green, yellow. Many are red-blind but see tinges of yellow or violet in 'red' flowers. Some flowers change to red when pollinated.
