"Iso-ptera" means "Same-wing"
Docomposers. The workers and soldiers do not have wings and are sterile. Only the reproductives are winged. These were swarming at the time.
Pests: There are two types of pest termites in our area, dry wood and dampwood ( subterranean). Termites are identified by the appearance of the swarmers , their damage, and the droppings they leave behind. Subterranean termites cause the majority of the termite-related damage and have a mud tunnel and contact with the ground. Dry wood termites restrict their attack of wood structures to a narrow geographic band that extends from Florida to California . Damp wood termites are common to the Pacific Northwest.
