Order: FALCONIFORMES - Kites, Hawks, Eagles, and Allies
Family: ACCIPITRIDAE - Hawks

Year-round residents. These are the ones we see most often throughout the area. The juveniles do not necessarily have the characteristic red tail but instead have dark and brown bands.
I often look for the black band on the chest. The dark patagial band on the wing seen in flight is a good field mark.

Juveniles have a gold eye and adults a dark eye.
