Cedar Waxwings and "Christmas Berry"
A sign of winter in southern California.
Toyon, also called Christmas Berry, is an evergreen shrub and a member of the rose family. Just in time for the Christmas season, toyon trees are loaded with red berries. The berries are a favorite of Cedar Waxwings, which spend summers in Canada but come south for the winter.
